Open Letter To The City Of Wasilla Goal: To Establish A More Fitting Memorial To Honor Wasilla Citizen Wesley Morton. It is a sad day for society when a resident is beaten to death by two violent teenagers in the very park that Wasilla had built in hopes that happy memories would be made there everyday. I actually did not take my children to Wonderland for a few years after the murder. Now it is a place we are able to enjoy together and I know it is meant to be enjoyed by kids and families alike. I see there is a small plaque in Wesley's memory at the park. I believe Wasilla, a city who can name a street after a Olympic skier who lived in this area only for a short time period and always referred to Girdwood as his home can certainly make the same gesture of community and good will towards a dear citizen who lived and died here. The park itself could be renamed as Wonderland Travis Morton Memorial Park or a street renamed in his honor would be a caring gesture by a caring community. If there are costs or expenses incurred, we could organize a volunteer community fundraiser to raise any funds that might be needed.
