We, the undersigned residents of the Highlands, Pawtucketville and other neighborhoods of Lowell, MA, oppose the proposed SABIS Charter School to be located at 1857 Middlesex Street.   The intersection of Wood and Middlesex Streets is proven to be one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections in the state.  Every weekday traffic backs up for almost a mile from Middlesex Street to Pawtucket Street, and preventing ambulances from reaching Lowell General Hospital quickly in a life-threatening emergencies.  If this project is approved, the increased volume of cars, trucks and school busses will further deteriorate what is already an extremely congested area.    The air quality in our neighborhoods will be impacted by exhaust emissions from traffic. Pedestrians, bicyclists and schoolchildren will be placed at increased risk of injury when crossing streets in these neighborhoods.   Based on the overall impact to the quality-of-life and safety of the residents of our neighborhoods and the City of Lowell, we object to this proposed school in the strongest terms and highly suggest that the Charter school and the City of Lowell pursue an alternate location for this project.
