I am a Mackworth resident who is concerned about the safety of pedestrians crossing the A52.

The existing provision for pedestrians is inadequate for two principal reasons:

Firstly, it is extremely inconvenient for pedestrians wishing to access Markeaton park from Mackworth. The designated route that crosses the A38, A52 and back across the A38 is lengthy, time consuming and viewed by many residents as carrying equal risk to attempting the dangerous uncontrolled crossing of the Western Arm of the A52 near Harringay Gardens. It is therefore no surprise that a significant proportion of these pedestrians choose to cross the A52 at Harringay Gardens.

Secondly, the Zebra Crossing of the Eastern Arm of the A52 on the designated route, being in close proximity of the roundabout, offers inadequate pedestrian safety due to careless, speeding motorists. there have been countless occasions when eastbound cars do not stop for crossing pedestrians alledgedly for fear of a 'rear end' collision from following motorists exiting the roundabout and when westbound cars simply fail to observe pedestrians at all.

The A52 is a fast road with large amounts of traffic. the existing refuge does not offer the safest option for Mackworth residents. A pelican crossing at Harringay Gardens will increase safety and prevent pedestrians having to use a very dangerous Zebra crossing.

Please sign this petition so that we can take this issue forward to the next Mackworth neighbourhood board meeting for all parties to take this issue seriously and fully consider the viability of a pelican crossing at Harringay Gardens.
