The Mackay Regional Council made a decision to permanently close our “MEMORIAL COMMUNITY SWIM CENTRE”, over weekends. The Community of Mackay worked hard to raise money for this Swim Centre as a living Memorial, for those who gave life and limb, for the freedom we enjoy today. Mackay is an active city and has produced Olympic, Australian, State and Masters champions, and many still train in this pool. Also those battling surgery, arthritis and many other health problems are reliant on this pool. The rapid expansion of our beautiful city should have more facilities, not take away those we do have. We need to encourage health and fitness and swimming is one of the best forms of exercise to help all.
