Though there is an ongoing fight to keep educational music in our school, the issue of recreational music seems to have been over-looked. Though music is readily available on multiple platforms, many, if not all of those venues, are blocked in our public schools. Our freedom of expression allows us to listen to whatever music we would like to, however, our ability to listen to music is being blacked-out. Many schools have strict electronic policies that disallow the use of ipods and smart-phones even just to hear our favorite songs. Furthermore, just as many schools have gone to the next step and deny students the ability to use free-online music venues, such as Pandora.ocm, iHEART.com, and Playlist.com. If a student doesn't have the ability to openly express their musical preferences in school, then it is a direct violation of our First Amendment Rights. Free music in our schools, for everyone.
