Comments: If workforce economy is a priority for the State of Ohio, I urge you to consider additional funding rather than reduced funding for drug addiction services. Without funding for treatment and vocational services, the entire State of Ohio will suffer.

Comments: Dear Governor Kasich, Senators and Representatives, Greetings! My name is Dr. Robert Smith. I am the Clinical Director of Stella Maris, an alcohol, drug and mental health care facility located in Cleveland. The intent of this correspondence is to support the request of the substance abuse treatment providers throughout Ohio for additional funds to support alcohol and drug treatment. As you know, without adequate funds, individuals with alcoholism and drug addiction go untreated. Untreated, these illnesses lead to issues and financial burdens that we as a community cannot afford. For these untreated individuals are often unemployed, uninsured, and homeless. They have medical complications that result in emergency room visits and hospitalizations. They rely on welfare and food stamps and they often resort to criminal activities to support their addictions. I believe that turning our backs on the needs of these individuals is not an acceptable option for any of us. Let me share briefly what adequate funding and treatment can accomplish. Last year, Stella Maris treated over 600 men and women. Of those who completed treatment, 98% had no new legal involvement, 75% remained abstinent from alcohol and drugs, 70% had safe stable housing at discharge, and 52% had employment or were enrolled in vocational programs. Thus, with treatment these men and women are able to achieve mental health, sobriety and stability, returning to our community as contributing citizens. So, I ask that you reconsider and return the funds needed to address the behavioral healthcare needs of those suffering from addiction. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Dr. Smith

Comments: Our communities cannot afford to have any more cuts in funding for Alcohol and other Drug Addiction Services. These services not only save the lives of addicts, but restore families, and produce citizens who contribute to their community.

Comments: Funding ODADAS will save tax payers from increased drug and alcohol related costs, including incarceration, the medical and unemployment costs that addiction creates, and the costs of lost lives. ODADAS not only funds services for adults, but for children and adolescents as well.
