This petition is for the right to wear hats, beanies, hoods, and other type of head wear indoors in the David Douglas School District in Portland, Oregon. This has been an ongoing issue in our school district as well as dozens, if not hundreds of other school districts around the country. For some reason these school boards do not allow hats, beanies, hoods, etc. because they say that it is impolite and disrespectful, but I do not see anything wrong with supporting your favorite sports team or wearing a hat that matches your outfit. Furthermore both I and others have noticed a sexual bias when it comes to this matter. By this I mean that quite frequently a male student will be told to remove his hat, but then a female student wearing a hat as well will be overlooked by the teacher. Sure there is the few that would abuse this privilege by wearing big distracting hats, and I too think that should be grounds for some sort of punishment, but that is only a select few out of thousands of good, rule abiding students in this district. This is why I ask the teachers, the students, and the parents of students of the David Douglas School District to sign this petition and stop this unfair ban on head wear. Thank You
