Points in petition: 1) Drug testing - Many times people sell their food stamps for cash in order to purchase drugs. They sell them at $ .50 U.S. currency per $1.00 in food stamps. This is unfair in several different ways. The more people needing welfare creates less of an amount given to those who qualify, meaning that someone who "sells" their food stamps for a dollar amount of cash is taking away from what others truly need in order to sustain their families. - There is a priority order in which we, as a human race, should order things. If a person has the cash for drugs, they have the cash for food- which is much better priced. 2) Nutrition classes every renewal period -Nutrition is an important part of our everyday lives. Proper nutrition leads to a healthy person. Poor nutrition, however, causes many side effects including but not limited to heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and a heightened risk of cancer. Many adults either do not know how to properly nourish themselves and their families, or they believe that what they are doing is correct. Government provided nutrition classes at every renewal period can help to educate people on proper food preperation techniques. -There are also cheaper ways of eating and preparing foods when compared to the "easy" pre-prepared foods that are sold at 3 times the cost of the materials and preperation to make it yourself. Nutrition classes including handouts or brochures with recipes for easy, simple and healthy dishes will help even a family with the busiest schedule to eat properly. - Obesity rates are increasing in the U.S. Even schools have noticed this and failed at several different attempts to lessen the weight margin among our nation's children. One of the reasons they are failing is due to poor nutrition choices that the children have been raised with. teaching proper nutrition and dieting starts at home, but parents cannot teach what they themselves do not know 3) I.D. required at time of purchase -Requiring an I.D. at the time of purchase for foodstamps helps in several different ways, It prevents theft of food stamps, makes it more complicated to "sell" food stamps to others, and also creates a realization as to how important and crucial it is to keep the food stamps for your own household.
