Comments: 15/07/2011 at 3:02 amThe Ouija board ( /?wi?d?? b??rd/ wee-j?; possibly dreived from the French and German words for yes , oui and ja), also known as a spirit/fire key board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words yes' no' hello' and goodbye', and other symbols and words are sometimes also added to help personalize the board. It is a registered trademark of Hasbro Inc. , which markets and distributes the Ouija Board as part of its line of board games. It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood) or movable indicator to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a se9ance. The fingers of the se9ance participants are placed on the planchette, which then moves about the board to spell out words or become physically manifested. It has become a trademark that is often used generically to refer to any talking board.Following its commercial introduction by businessman Elijah Bond on July 1, 1890, the Ouija board was regarded as a harmless parlor game unrelated to the occult until American Spiritualist Pearl Curran popularized its use as a divining tool during World War I. Mainstream Christian religions and some occultists have associated use of the Ouija board with the threat of demonic possession and some have cautioned their followers not to use Ouija boards. While Ouija believers feel the paranormal or supernatural is responsible for Ouija's action, it may be parsimoniously explained by unconscious movements of those controlling the pointer, a psychophysiological phenomenon known as the ideomotor effect. Despite being debunked by the efforts of the scientific community, Ouija remains popular among many young people. One of the first mentions of the automatic writing method used in the Ouija board is found in China around 1100 CE, in historical documents of the Song Dynasty. The method was known as fuji ?? planchette writing . The use of planchette writing as a means of ostensibly contacting the dead and the spirit-world continued, and, albeit under special rituals and supervisions, was a central practice of the Quanzhen School, until it was forbidden by the Qing Dynasty. Several entire scriptures of the Daozang are supposedly works of automatic planchette writing. Similar methods of mediumistic spirit writing have been widely practiced in Ancient India, Greece, Rome and medieval Europe. During the late 19th century, planchettes were widely sold as a novelty. The businessmen Elijah Bond and Charles Kennard had the idea to patent a planchette sold with a board on which the alphabet was printed. The patentees filed on May 28, 1890 for patent protection and thus had invented the first Ouija board. Issue date on the patent was February 10, 1891. They received U.S. Patent 446,054. Bond was an attorney and was an inventor of other objects in addition to this device. An employee of Kennard, William Fuld took over the talking board production and in 1901, he started production of his own boards under the name Ouija . Kennard claimed he learned the name Ouija from using the board and that it was an ancient Egyptian word meaning good luck. When Fuld took over production of the boards, he popularized the more widely accepted etymology, that the name came from a combination of the French and German words for yes . The Fuld name would become synonymous with the Ouija board, as Fuld reinvented its history, claiming that he himself had invented it. The strange talk about the boards from Fuld's competitors flooded the market and all these boards enjoyed a heyday from the 1920s through the 1960s. Fuld sued many companies over the Ouija name and concept right up until his death in 1927. In 1966, Fuld's estate sold the entire business to Parker Brothers, who continues to hold all trademarks and patents. About ten brands of talking boards are sold today under various names.

Comments: 02/10/2011 at 2:28 pmHi Eyepriestess, yes, once again I will share. It was very early 1984, because I had given birth to my first child, my dhtaguer, in late Oct. of 83. My friend and I were married to guys who both worked with Hulcher, a crew who traveled all over the U.S. cleaning up train wrecks.Needless to say, we would spent a few days to several days alone, so one of us came up with the wonderful idea to entertain ourselves. You have to keep in mind that we did not have the internet or cell phones back in 1984. Add to that, I had my newborn dhtaguer, so what was I going to do for entertainment? Well, I found it, so I thought.A night or two Lisa had come over and we would have a few drinks and watch TV. One of those nights I suggested we play the ouija board. So we did. But nothing ever happened. No witchboard crap with the planchette moving about on its own, nothing. Finally, after about round 3, we thought it was stupid.I would say around night 3 or 4, I was home all by myself with my baby,. it was early evening, it was already dark. I was in the kitchen washing what few dishes/pots and pans had been used when I heard the entity. It was not a very masculine voice, but definitely not feminine. It said my name very quickly, but not loud Tonja. I know it was only a few feet away, right behind me and to my right. Instinctively, hearing my name called, I swung my head to the right and said what?It took about 3 seconds for me to realize that I was home alone, with only my baby dhtaguer, and that the voice that had been behind me and called my name was not coming from a window-nor a prankster. There were no windows behind me. The next window would have been available if I had walked to the bedrooms. This voice was much, much closer than that. The entity not only called my named, but said it quickly. Also, it was not loud or screaming. It was at normal decible, just as if anyone in a quiet house would say your name.. Just a quick Tonja and that was it. But it was there. I heard it while washing dishes. I heard it that it made me whip my head around to my right. I heard it. It was not my imagination. The next thing I did was this. I did not ask who it was, what it was, where it was, why it was. All I did was run into into the master bedroom where my dhtaguer was, lying in her crib. She was asleep and looked peaceful. Regardless, i grabbed her up and both of us slept on the living room sofa that evening, with the overhead ceiling light and TV on.The next day, during the nice bright sunny daylight, I took the ouija board and burned it in our trash pile behind our house. To this day, I have never owned another ouija, or, ever had any other experience with one.

Comments: 10/02/2009 at 8:26 pmThe stories from this wibsete are all too familiar, when I was about 9 my mother sat me down to do a Ouija board session. I thought my mother was moving the glass, (shes always lied and physically abused us as kids). she continually would give me books of witch craft and other such books over the years before I left home. she took me to a physic when I was 9 and the lady told mum that I was very powerful and that she could'nt read me at all. i remember the visit so vividly, she looked at me for so long and at the time I thought we were at a new friend of my mothers so didn't understand why she was looking so intently at me. but i remember hearing this lady telling me to let her in, but she wasn't speaking to me with her mouth, just still staring at me. I remember saying no in my head and then completely blocked her out. after that visit my mother started giving me books of physic nature and everthing supernatural and had Ouija board sessions, which i found annoying, not interesting. I was never interested in the supernatural until my mother forced it upon me. I have since then had numerous encounters with ghosts/demons. i am now 31 years old and i could tell you stories that would make your hair curl. i have made believers out of skeptics. i have never talked to physics or contacted people who deal with the supernatural. Ive blocked the supernatural world out since i was 18 because i want to protect my children, although in times of weakness it has reared its ugly head through out the years. i think its time to get answers for myself. Is there someone or a organization that i could contact to get answers here in New Zealand.

I must admit though I was surprised with the most recent forecast- all weather reports I'm seeing show cloudy to rainy conditions tonight with NNE winds- not exactly the best for migrants. What are you seeing that my simple weather forecast doesn't factor in?Thanks for doing this.Joe
