You're not gonna believe this!

We'll never give up because an accessible van driver expecting common courtesy from drivers in today's society is no longer possible. According to Americans with Disabilities regulations, anyone with handicapped parking licensing can park in a "Van Accessible" designated space because it's not just for vans! If you confront a handicap licensed driver in a car or anything else, for parking in Van Accessible (or in most states over striped access aisles), police will judge you to be in the wrong. There is strength in numbers. Let's get this mess changed.

Van Accessible

In this day and age, most drivers don't know or care what the Van Accessible sign means in Handicapped parking spaces. Driver's tests, and manuals from state Bureau of Motor Vehicles don't cover the definition of this signage.  The only people who know what Van Accessible parking means seem to be accessible van drivers, their companions, and businesses that sell mobility equipped vans!  Why hasn't the Americans with Disabilities Act dealt with this situation over all of these years?

Think - Know - Believe

1.   Did you think that all severely mobility-impaired people are homebound? Wrong, technology has revolutionized their ability to break-free from homebound status! 2.   Do you know that people who must off-load wheelchairs from vans have no equal-access to parking? It's true most of the time in America. 3.   Did you think that accessible van parking needs are met by the use of Van Accessible parking spaces? Wrong, those spaces are the first-choice to be taken by other drivers. 4.   So, do you believe it's just a situation of "first-come-first-served" parking? Yes. Anyone with Handicapped licensing can park in Van Accessible parking spaces, because the ADA Regulations direct that "Van Accessible parking spaces are not only for vans."5.   Does this mean that government systems regarding Handicapped parking are flawed? Absolutely, Yes!

Systematic ADA barricades to equal access

Many people with disabilities experience having to load and unload a wheelchair to/from a van in order to go anywhere, then are expected to find a "Van Accessible" parking space provided by Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.   These parking spaces are frequently overtaken by anyone with handicap licensing because; they are closest to building entrances; these spaces are wider than other parking spaces; and ADA laws have "TAUGHT" drivers to disregard the needs of accessible van drivers. Let's tell our government to fix this mess, and stop violating the civil rights of people with disabilities, by systematic ADA barricades to equal parking access.

Spammer posts not welcome here and will be deleted

WE DELETE SPAM!FYI, our petition count spiked from 120 to 163 signatures in November, so I checked the petition to see what resource was now proving to be the clincher. It turned-out that people from all over the world were posting SPAM on our petition site in the Signature Comments and Blog sections, selling handbags, Air Jordan knock-offs, sunglasses, etc. One comment was even a complaint posted where someone paid for and hadn't received the "product."  We immediately removed the spammers, and reported the activity to ipetitions.

We don't recommend confrontations over parking

Please don't hate the violators. The source of our nation's Handicapped Parking problems, is systematic discrimination which enables violators.People with disabilities are members of a protected class of citizens in the USA. We focus on existing government systems nationwide, which have failed to educate the public, and accommodate people with severe mobility impairments needing equal access to parking. We are not qualified to decide which disabilities people have, are legitimate reasons to have Handicap licensing.  ADA regulations make it very clear that determination of qualifying disabilities requires a fact-specific individualized analysis of each disabled individual's circumstances.  The AAEHPA does not practice, or encourage confrontations with people we think are breaking the law. (With the ADA's minimal standards requirements, you are more likely to be the driver found in the wrong!) You can't confront a car driver, or motorcyclist for taking a Van...
