They are also crucial to leverage other public and private funds for this type of housing because it communicates that the City of Durham values the importance of establishing housing for the disabled, homeless and others with special needs.Flag

Name: Mary Carson on Mar 13, 2010Comments: I urge that you support this housing effort. It has disallusioned me about the United States, the richest (at least before China) country in the world that the country, and its various local governments act as though the needy do not exist, or are someone else's problem. Our government(s) have money for art, for handsome commemorative buildings, but not for the poor or sick. Priorities are wrong. Let's take a step toward doing the right thing.Flag

Name: Vickie Carpenter on Mar 13, 2010Comments: An individual who is homeless is far less likely to get most of their other life needs met, such as medical care, mental health care, proper nutrition, dental care, etc. Providing affordable housing is a necesary first step in taking care of our most vulnerable populations. From the financial aspect of providing housing, fewer hospitaliziations and medical emergencies are seen in those who have stable housing and will save Durham money in the long term.Flag

Many of us who gave our time to devising the TYP plan are looking to the city council to signal their ongoing support for this large task.Flag
