Name: Anne Fredbeck on Mar 19, 2011Address: 436 Manor Ridge Road PelhamComments: We need our full time nurse at Siwanoy. Please do not cut this from the budget. The nurse plays a very important role in the daily lives of our children at school. These are young children, they are in school 6 hours and 40 minutes each day. The teachers and administration should not be asked to play this role.Flag

Name: Mary Waterous-Balogh on Mar 19, 2011Address: 32 Chestnut AvenueComments: The need for a full-time nurse comes down to a lot more than dollars and cents. The school nurse wears more hats than any other professional in the building, from reassuring and dressing a child who is bleeding from a fall to skillfully and confidently administering medication to a child who is in shock. Who will take on the burden and skill of this responsibility?Flag

Our teachers are already over-burdened. Do not make this cut for the safety of our students.Flag

Name: Lisa Tsavaris on Mar 19, 2011Address: 135 Secor Lane, Pelham Manor, NYComments: As the parent of a child with a designated Section 504 for health issues, I am requesting that the Board reconsider its position to remove full time nurses from our schools. The thought of my child not having immediate access to nurse is truly scary. We have so relied on our school nurse on a day to day basis for so many things for my other child as well. Headaches, boo boos, upset tummies and so much more. I cannot recall how many times Joan Walder has assessed my children and we trust her. She is so wonderful and such a great asset to our school. We must find another way to cut costs. Please reconsider and keep our full time nurses!Flag

Name: Suzanne Dudek on Mar 19, 2011Address:Comments: Please don't consider budget cuts on personnel directly tied into our children's well-being - teachers and nurses work closely with our kids and are not the place to save money. I would much rather see the grass a little long or the floors a little dirtier than see our kids packed in understaffed classrooms with their health needs potentially unmet. There have got to be other places to cut costs that won't place our kids at risk. This is a BAD idea!Flag

Name: Amy Dunkin on Mar 19, 2011Address:Comments: I work in the city so if my child is sick or injured, I can't be at school in 5 minutes to get him. The school nurse is the person I depend on to administer to him in my absence. We are leaving Siwanoy in June as my younger son moves on to middle school, so whether Siwanoy has a full-time nurse next year won't be an issue for us. However, I think all present and future Siwanoy parents are entitled to the same reassurance I have had that there's always a trained medical professional on premises to care for their children.Flag
