PLEASE NOTE:
THE HIPPO HAS AGREED TO TURN TWO BATHROOMS INTO UNISEX BATHROOMS!
As a patrons of both The Hippo and Grand Central Station, I support the creation of multi-gender bathrooms. Over the years, trans people have been harassed and discriminated against due to gender identity
and expression. Transgender people have been verbally assaulted in restrooms, thrown out and received glares and abusive comments.
Transphobia, the irrational fear and hatred of those who cross, blur or transcend the male/female gender
line, must be fought by the
Baltimore GBLT community. Fighting this oppression includes the creation of regulations and facilities which make the Hippo and Grand Central Station more accessible and friendly to people of all genders.
These two businesses are cornerstones of our GBLT
community and should be leaders in the fight for a
supportive, nurturing and inclusive community. Trans, intersex, drag and gender-variant communities are one of the constituencies which make up the rich fabric of diversity in Baltimore and throughout
society. We must work together to promote an environment that celebrates gender diversity.
By signing the petition below, we hope the Hippo and
Grand Central Station will take the first steps toward making our community more inclusive by establishing gender-neutral bathrooms that are as accessible as gendered bathrooms at their facilities and policies to protect our gender-variant community.
I really never imagined this many people would join in when I started this. This momentum belongs entirely to you and I am just blown away by how much you care about making our community safer. If you could send the link to a few more folks right now we might just hit that next goal.

The Hippo is my favorite spot but this change is long overdue. No one should be harassed for just being themselves.
