There currently are no laws in Oklahoma that address pre-existing medical conditions for individual citizens. There is a section of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) bill which addresses pre-existing conditions and group coverage. The problem though lies with the people who don't have access to group coverage, which if you are sick with cancer, a disability, etc, rendering you unable to work your options are limited. There are many situations in which pre-existing medical conditions and individual coverage situations collide, and people are left unable to get care for their situation. Insurance companies underwriters don't want to take on the liability of pre-existing condition patients. And that is where this petition could make a difference, tell our Oklahoma Represenatives you want a change by placing your signiture on our petition.
