June 4th, 2008 President George W. Bush 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20500 Dear President Bush, The current unprecedented escalating fuel costs in this country are causing serious harm to our citizens and our economy. This harm is significant enough to be considered a threat to our national security. On behalf of the citizens of the United States of America the undersigned implore you to lead a Call to Action for your Administration, the Senate and the Congress to jointly make the current escalating cost of energy, particularly petroleum products, and our long term energy independence and energy cost stability a National Top Priority and to WORK TOGETHER to effect immediate relief and long term positive change. The real threat is due to the fast pace of cost increase which many segments of our economy are not equipped to deal with effectively. Therefore many businesses are shutting down, not because they are inefficient or unwanted entities, but because the industry standard model that they operate within does not work with fuel prices climbing by several percentage points per week! There are many political leaders that are realizing the significance of this threat. Many are beginning to offer their ideas of what is causing these unprecedented price increases and possible legislation to cause change and/or temporary relief. Some of the commonly thought causes are: Unrestricted commodity trading of oil. Tightening of supply and demand ratio. Lack of refining capacity. Some of the commonly thought solutions are: Monitor and restrict oil trading. Remove oil from the commodities market. Stop Federal purchasing of oil for reserve capacity. Open up more drilling off the coast and in Alaska. Remove permitting obstacles to alternative energy projects. Repeal tax breaks for profitable oil companies and invest that money in incentives for alternative energy development. This letter is not to promote any particular cause or solution. The purpose of this letter is as stated: The undersigned implore you to lead a Call to Action for your Administration, the Senate and the Congress to make the current escalating cost of energy, particularly petroleum products, and our long term energy independence and energy cost stability a national top priority and to WORK TOGETHER to effect immediate relief and long term positive change. Unprecedented escalating energy costs are threatening every aspect of our Countrys existence. The people of America need, deserve and will rally behind you should you provide the Leadership that this threat demands. We pray that you will with God\'s blessing. Respectfully, The Undersigned U.S. Citizens
