Name: Elizabeth Burstein on Jan 26, 2007Comments: Norman Finkelstein's speech completely ignored the UN Partition Plan of 1947 and the fact that it gave Arabs in Palestine the opportunity to have a state or the first time in history and they REJECTED it. Both the apartheid analogy and the analogy that compares the American occupation of the land of the Native Americans to Israel's creation in 1948 are inaccurate. The Jews are the Native Americans of the land of Israel, not the Palestinians. The Jewish state is a reparation for the millions of organized persecutions that Jews have suffere throughout time--from the pogroms to the Holocaust . Next, look at the countless negotiations that the Israelis have given to promote peace in the region. South African "apartheid" is unique and is only being used to appeal to the layperson's emotion. Without the state of Israel and crucial parts of it, Jews (like myself) will lose all sense of identity because the land was originally the land of the Jews.Flag
