This petition's purpose is to make the U.S. President and Congress forfeit their salaries to the American public (divided evenly) for as long as the government is shut down and until the fiscal cliff crisis is fixed. The purpose of the government is to serve it's people - and our leaders have let us down. Compromise is needed! So let's put them in a position in which we find ourselves every single day - working for their money! As Congress is shut down, the house, the senate and the president still get paid. Let's give them a taste of our world and make them sacrifice their paychecks not back into the hands of the government where it can filter back to them, but to the pockets of our hard working American people. Let's split it up evenly to every citizen.
