Petition addressed to: Carl Hite, President Cleveland State Community College PO BOX 3570 Cleveland, TN 37320 Dear Sir, We, the undersigned, members of Groupe des Anciens Etudiants Rescapés du Génocide (GAERG), an association of graduate students survivors of genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in Rwanda, would like to express our deepest dismay regarding the invitation of Paul Rusesabagina as a speaker at the Cleveland State Community College Multicultural Fair. It is important to note that Mr Rusesabagina arrived at Hotel des Milles Collines on the16thof April 1994; one week after the genocide started. At that time thousands of Tutsi and allies of Tutsi across the country had already been killed but more than a thousand refugees at the Hotel were spared for different reasons.The fact that the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) was stationed at the hotel and because the French army had its communication base there played a big role in saving these refugees’ lives. How can Paul claim that he saved people when he was not present at the hotel at this very critical time? Upon his arrival, Mr. Rusesabagina refused admission to the hotel any refugee who could not pay him on spot. Furthermore, he started to charge refugees for their stay and threw anyone who could not pay out of his/her room. Please refer to testimonies of Milles Collines Survivors gathered in a book “Hotel Rwanda or The Tutsi Genocide as seen by Hollywood” or at http://www.hotelrwandasurvivors.org/# Mr. Rusesabagina is an alleged staunchest supporters of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a terrorist organization based in and operating from the Eastern Congo. FDLR is blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council and is on “Terrorist Exclusion List’ by the United States of America.It is known that FDLR is mostly made by former Rwandan leaders who planned, sponsored and executed the genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda. Until now, FDLR continues to destabilize the great lake region by killing innocent people and raping women in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The Leaders of this organization are currently facing criminal prosecutions in Germany and at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague. Several other leaders of this organization are slapped with travel bans and their assets frozen all over the world. Yet, the world continues to promote Mr. Rusesabagina, their alleged sponsor. To the survivors of the Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda and Hotel des Mille Collines survivors, Paul Rusesabagina is a usurper, an impostor who, instead of condemning the genocide, publicly peddles and spreads the genocidal ideology. Before you expose the American youth to this man full of lies, you should consider carrying out a thorough investigation among genocide survivors who were at the Hotel des Milles Collines. In his speeches, Mr. Rusesabagina has been an advocate of “double genocide” in Rwanda which is obviously a very malicious way to deny the Rwanda Genocide recognized by the international community. It is in this regard that we, active members of GAERG in memory of our beloved parents, brothers, sisters, other relatives, friends and strangers who perished in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, implore you not to celebrate different cultures living in Bradley County, by supporting a genocide denier, and an alleged sponsor of terrorism. We acknowledge your noble work of educating more globally aware multicultural leaders and hope you will take our concerns into consideration. Signed:
