Join us to stand and let Obama know that we do not support his choice of inaugural pastor Rick Warren--a vehement homophobe who is against women's right to reproductive freedom. As Americans we are excited to celebrate Obama's inaugural with the spirit of inclusiveness and triumph over bigotry that his Presidency represents. It is absolutely unacceptable that a clergyman who represents hatred disguised as theology should be asked to 'bless' such an event that should be a celebration of freedom for all--all sexualities, races, religions, all identities. Barack Obama recently stated that with regard to Rick Warren's support of California's Propositon 8 to ban gay marriage--it was ok to agree to disagree. But it's not ok--it's wrong to stand beside a known bigot and proclaim solidarity without critiquing his views. Obama must know that his constituency is strong and will not tolerate intolerance from any on his team, not even from someone making a cameo appearance for p.r. purposes at the inauguration. We don't need the energy of hatred in the form of homophobia to be a part of that ceremony at all. Let us together send a message that we are fiercely serious about participating even in this very first event our new President is putting together--and let us stand for true freedom! Let us stand for a democracy that does not work against any group simply on the basis that another group doesn't like them. Let us stand for justice, and pressure the team to find another pastor, who will represent love!
