Comments: I have a cottage on Crane Lake west of MacTier. Despite assurances by Rogers Portable Internet that I should be in the signal territory, testing has proven that incorrect. Dial up is currently my only option.

Comments: Bell and Rogers are erecting towers at a fast pace in rural cottage areas. I have seen 3 go up this year. Sure we have some better cellular coverage, what we really need is high speed internet. What really frustrates me is that I cannot contact anyone at Rogers or Bell to discuss this. The customer service folks shut you down - with a keep checking back comment. I understand that these decisions need to have some financial basis. But I would at least like to understand the situation. As I look from my bed at night to the new flashing light the huge Rogers tower recently erected on Frying Pan Island, it would be easier to tollerate if I thought it was of some use - my Rogers cell phone already worked here - what we need is high speed internet

Comments: With the influx of cottagers making my former area their permanent home, I cannot understand why there hasn't been a greater effort made on the part of the local polticians at all levels of government to make braodband access 100% accessible. I would suggest lobbying the Harper government through your MP. In one of his columns, TorStar writer Michael Geist puts it like this: "An obvious starting point for connectivity is the role that federal, provincial, and municipal governments can play to ensure that all Canadians have access to the high-speed networks that are the price of admission to the participatory Internet. Canada's global broadband ranking has slipped steadily in recent years, as Asian and European countries leapt ahead with faster, more widely distributed high-speed networks. Moreover, last year's Telecommunications Policy Review Panel concluded that reliance solely on market forces would likely leave hundreds of thousands of Canadians without high-speed Internet access. In response, Prime Minister Stephen Harper would do well to take the lead by implementing the broadband strategy that languished under the previous Liberal government."

Comments: Zeuter Development Corporation began innovating wireless solutions before the year 2000. As a result, Zeuter began offering wireless internet service to the Parry Sound Area since 2003. We call our initiative "Wireless Parry Sound". Our objective is and has been to provide wireless internet throughout Parry Sound District. Because Parry Sound District is one of the largest in Ontario, we have to focus our deployment on areas where we know there is a practical and economically feasible solution. Broadband Wireless Internet is not like dialup or cable or dsl. It is highly dependent on the local terrain. The very best step you can take to secure wireless internet for your neighbourhood is to email sales@zeuter.com with your physical address (fire route or street address). We have amassed a database with hundreds of potential wireless subscribers which drives our deployment of wireless internet to this day. Jim Marshall, for example, knows that he lives within walking distance of one of our towers but is between two heights of land which would require a large tower of his own to connect. If enough of his neighbours were in a similar predicament and had expressed a similar interest to us then it becomes cost-effective for us to solve that problem. In time and with your support, our wireless service will grow to cover these nooks and crannies that make up Parry Sound District. No one has a better understanding of what it will cost, where it can work or when it will happen than Zeuter. For those who choose to live in the bush far away from the conveniences of urban living, we salute you. Zeuter was borne of necessity and resourcefulness when we began providing internet services here in Parry Sound back in 1995 when no one else would. Support your local internet provider! For the record, Zeuter has applied for government funding for rural broadband internet many times since 2000 only to be rejected by the very people who feign support for our cause. Bill Spinney of the local CBDC told me to go to a bank and would not even discuss the matter with us. Instead he spent $56,000 on a wireless study which produced nothing. We didn't need a study, we've done the study, we need money to build towers! We complained to FedNor who funds the CBDC and got the royal runaround. We escalated to Andy Mitchell who arranged for an independent consultant who determined that our complaint was valid. When Andy Mitchell took no action as a result, we withdrew support for him and helped elect Tony Clement. On April 12th, 2007, Tony Clement personally committed to me that he would launch an investigation into this CBDC/FedNor funding snafu. If you are willing, you may further help support our cause by emailing Tony Clement (Clement.T@parl.gc.ca) and telling him you want Zeuter to have the funding needed to ramp up deployment. Meanwhile, Zeuter will continue to expand coverage as we have been doing, solely funded by local private investors and loyal clients.

Comments: Well I do realize that many of you are not familiar with satellite internet, you would be doing yourself a favour to investigate that issue. Xplorent is giving satellite broadband a bad reputation. The only way to go is HughesNet.. I believe the only place in Muskoka/Parry Sound to purchase this is Ardco Systems in Parry Sound. 705.746.7610. Xplorenet only uses one satellite for their entire footprint whereas HughesNet has about a dozen. This alleviates those times where your back to dial-up speeds because the kids are off school. Xplorenet was created by Bell Sympatico and after they realized it was an unstable system, they sold the rights. That is saying a lot if Bell won't even sell it. There are financing options for HughesNet too. Last time I checked, if you had a small business, FedNor would cover upto 75% of your costs. There are also the rent to buy plans. In reality, you are only paying $10 more per month then you would in town for just as reliable of service. And by the way, who ever said you will lose your signal in the rain is wrong and needs to have their dish checked. Simply put, the HughesNet dish is much more powerful then your Bell or Star Choice dish. How often you lose signal with that can be cut in half and that is about how often you will lose your signal. For the luxury of being able to live where I love to live, the sticks, the extra few busks a month won't kill me. I have to buy gas to get to town, whereas those in town don't to. It's just part of the good life I suppose.

Comments: UPDATE: - Bell and Roger's Inukshuk (wireless internet) is complete, so if you're north of the Humphrey/Rosseau area, you're out of luck. - Vianet has installed wireless internet equipment on towers in Humphrey and Orrville, so btn. that and Rogers/Bell, the S. Parry Sound area is pretty well covered. They're currently looking at a couple of sites - Bell is supposed to have EVDO Rev-A cell data live on Parry Sound area tower by end of 2nd qrt. - Rogers is committed to rolling out HSPDA at some point in the Parry Sound area, but no time table as to when.

Comments: After thirteen years on dial-up, we we told we would get high-speed this year. We started to inquire in early April and all we've heard are mixed messages from sales people who a) didn't know the status of service b) made promises they couldn't keep c) didn't understand their own equipment. We both work out of our home - high-speed internet is a necessity, not a luxury.
