The petition

The cause of this petition is have an after school program for middle school children in Pasco County. We currently have a program for elementary age children located in the cafeteria's of Pasco's Elementary Schools. This program known as PLACE (Pasco Learning Activities Centers of Enrichment) is very important to families. Once a child enters middle school they are no longer eligible to come to the after school program in the elementary schools.
I am a Pasco County School Board employee and currently the Site Manager of a PLACE Program in Seven Oaks Elementary. I myself have a child who will be going to middle school next year for the 2007-2008 school year. He is a special needs child and cannot go home alone, and there are no special exceptions for him to return to my program next year.
I know many parents most of which are single parents would like to have this program available to their middle school children. The program is very inexpensive compared to outside activities such as Karate, YMCA, Dance, etc. and is located on school grounds.
This petition will be handed over to the Director of Child Care Educational Programs by September 30, 2006. This will give them ample time to prepare for the next school year.
