A shortlist of sites will be produced at Sustainable Communities Overview
and Scrutiny Committee on 28th February 2013, this shortlist will form part of
the Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan and will be presented to Executive for
approval in March. If the Executive approve the draft Gypsy and Traveller Local
Plan, the draft document will be put before Full Council in April. If Full
Council approve the draft Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan for publication, the
document will be published in May. A six week consultation period will follow
in which interested parties will have the opportunity to submit representations
on the Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan. All representations will be considered
by the Council and necessary amendments will be made to the Local Plan before
the document is submitted to the Secretary of State for examination. The

The council has a statutory
duty to provide Gypsy and Traveller pitches. Over the next 20 years, the period which this plan will
cover, the council will need to provide an extra 135 pitches.
A pitch consists of a fairly permanent mobile home, a touring caravan,
an amenities block and often a shed. There is also room to park and room for
visitors to park. Typically the average number of caravans per pitch is 1.7.
Mr Young (Executive Member for Sustainable Communities - Strategic Planning and Economic Development) has been quoted by the Biggleswade press as saying: “We will try to

understand that that would not lead to integration between the settled

Tuesday 22nd January 2013So we have launched the petition that we hope will give Potton and its surrounding neighbours a voice. We just wanted to say a big thank you to those that have provided their support already for the petition. The plan is to ensure that this is provided to our local Councillor, the Commitee responsible for the planning and consideration of these proposals, our local MP and the Home Secretary. We know we have a long way to go so we would ask you to ensure that EACH voice in your home is heard and for you to encourage all of your household members to sign the petition. Every voice deserves to be heard. We will be dropping leaflets in Potton and the surrounding villages over the coming days and weeks to ensure we get the message out there - despite it be cold cold cold!
