    Comments: I had the opportunity to go on a field trip last spring with students from Holmes. I was very impressed with their knowledge, enthusiasm, and wonderful behavior. I am a retired Detroit elementary teacher and foun the children from Holmes to be a delight. This school is a jewel and should not be closed.

    Comments: I have worked with O.W. Holmes teachers for a number of years and have found them to be among the most progressive and dedicated in the district. It would be very unfortunate to close a school with such an outstanding staff serving a uniquely diverse student population. Please seek alternatives to closing O.W. Holmes.

    Comments: You have a wonderful Science teacher there, who has earneed numerous grants for the school and kids. She has also been chosen as Teacher of the Year at her home school for 2006, by the Alumni Association. Why would you want to close that school You would risk losing a teacher of that caliber This makes no sense!

    Comments: Please do not close this school, it will create a terrible hardship on the children, youth and the families in the community. It will leave the building vacant in the community, increasing the potential for creating unsafe and unsanitary conditions in our neighborhood. We need strong neighborhood schools and AL Holmes is a strong school. Please don't dismantle our school and our community. thank you.

Holmes for laying a solid academic foundation that has enabled me to achieve my life-ling goals up to this point. The diverse student body made me ready for the real world. I would love for future students to be able to make these type of comments in later years.

    Comments: Don't close this school. There are so many wonderful children here that have had such a rough life. School is the only safe place for them. Don't change another thing in their life. These kids deserve something to look forward to.

    Comments: I have personally volunteered at this school. It is effectively run by passionate, inspiring teachers and deserves its place in the Detroit school system. The children love it and work cooperatively and gratefully on their schoolwork. Where might these children be if they weren't inside this school's caring, enriching walls? It would be nothing less than a waste and a shame to close O. W. Holmes Elementary School.

    Comments: Please do not close O.W. Holmes school! Having volunteered at this fine school, I have seen teachers who love their students and want to see them succeed. It is very apparent that the students have the desire to learn. It would be a great disservice to the community to close down a school with such potential.
