The Over and Under Project

The petition

I support the Over and Under Project, a grassroots advocacy effort on behalf of the thousands of compulsive gamblers, their loved ones and the communities impacted by the effects of compulsive gambling.

I believe that local/state/federal policymakers and gaming stakeholders should commit to increasing resources and funds for compulsive gabling prevention, treatment and recovery support. 48 states receive a total of over $20 billion in gambling tax and lottery revenue. Only $36 million is set-aside for services for those who are compulsive gamblers.

I believe that every effort to create or expand legal gambling in my community should include a plan to commit an adequate percentage of revenue generated by the locality and/or state to programs that combat the impacts of compulsive gambling. This is an issue that transcends every race, age and income demographic. Compulsive gamblers and those who support prevention and treatment services will no longer remain silent. It is time for state governments to provide a fair share for prevention and treatment if they are going to continue raking in gaming dollars.
