The pharmaceutical companies finally buckled and committed to fixing the supply chain for these life-saving drugs. We forced them to acknowledge that patients are not just line items on a balance sheet. Keep your eyes open because we need to hold them to every single promise they made.

Currently, there are more than 200 drug shortages in the United States. Many of these drugs are used to treat deadly diseases like ovarian cancer. These shortages have resulted in women with ovarian cancer not getting a drug their doctor recommended, not getting a drug on time, not getting any drug or getting a more expensive drug.

While we recognize that many factors can contribute to drug shortages, we know that the impact is devastating for women with ovarian cancer. This disease is already the deadliest gynecologic cancer. Drug shortages make it difficult for women to receive necessary medical care, much less the best possible medical care.

The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and the undersigned call on pharmaceutical companies and appropriate government agencies to take immediate action that will end or ameliorate these shortages.

Pharmaceutical companies are watching these numbers and hoping we lose momentum before hitting one thousand signatures. Send this link to five people right now so we can force them to acknowledge the lives they are jeopardizing.

So many urgently needed medications are in short supply or not available at all. I have taken action by joining PhysiciansAgainstDrugShortages. They have eloquently outlined the true root cause of the pervasive drug shortages evident since 2006. There is a middleman monopoly by group purchasing organizations (GPOs). Supply chain management experts and the American Antitrust Institute concur that the powerful GPO cartel is the only explanation for this extraordinary market failure. If the anti-competitive monopoly is busted up then and only then will companies return to the marketplace. Visit PhysiciansAgainstDrugShortages and speak out for an end to this deadly travesty.
