Doctor Beckett has long been a fan favourite among viewers of SGA. From day one, in fact! His popularity encouraged his addition into the main credits, and that popularity still exists. We love Doctor Beckett, so why get rid of an asset of the show? Why??
Surely, there is another way to add wow factor to the show, without having boxed yourself into a corner with fewer options and depleted assets..? I know you think a replacement will mean you haven't lost anything, but you're wrong... I implore you to re-consider, and help your colleagues to do the same! Or, soon, I think you'll lose your fanbase's respect, and therefore, said fanbase as well... Please, give me the time of day & read on, even if I have just said something you did not want to hear!::
PLEASE, make an effort to keep Paul and his character in Stargate: Atlantis!!! You are better than this tired old idea... (of killing off someone for shock and supposed ‘wow’ factor)…
Writing is meant to be about knowing your audience; Knowing what it wants, and being the best at bringing it to them, in a package that has them utterly wrapt and spellbound;
Good writing is meant to be stronger than using the cheap trick of a tired writer for ‘wow’ factor, and supposedly giving the audience what society says it demands, instead of truly listening to them… We do NOT demand the death of Beckett. We demanded he be put in the credits, for Heaven’s sake! We LOVE him!!! We demand that his fate be reversed, and that he be kept in the show, and that the Production Team & you, TPTB, show us how talented and wonderful you all are by sticking with the character… Because the other option (death and replacement) does not show us this same, amazing level of talent, the element that drew us all in at the beginning, - It only shows us weakness, and SGA is SO much better than that!!! You are better than that - On past evidence! You've made us proud of you, until now, until this, another in a spat of disappointments (i.e more needless character death!) Don’t replace Carson. Don’t even think of letting him stay dead?? And, what is it with Jewel Staite? Do you think we’re stupid!? (Your behaviour indicates you must! I thought we meant more to you than that!!) We’ve only just seen her as Ella The Wraith… That, plus introducing her in this manner will undermine the intergrity of the show, as will the killing of Carson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That style of writing doesn't suit stargate, never has in my opinion. Im begging you, please head our words, KEEP CARSON(!!!!!!!!!!xinfinity), and leave that style of writing where it belongs, in trashy daytime tv dramas.
I've never felt this strongly about this subject before, but in all seriousness, you loose Carson and you loose me.
I understand that filming for season 3 has finished, and Carson's fate is already decided, but im begging you, begging with all my heart and soul, bring him back in season 4. We don't want Carson back in 'some shape or form', we want our reliable, brilliant and awesomly cuddly Scottish Doc. back on the regular cast list.

I just am not sure what the Producers are thinking bringing her into the show amidst all this, and when she has only just played a Wraith... Mind you, I am sure I will come to like her contribution to the show in its own right! I was pleased to see her in Wraith makeup before, after all..! (offer the new role by all means, but you’ve got to be careful of hiding that she was not so long ago Ella The Wraith, unless you make her a relative or something!). It’s not that she has been brought into the show, but HOW that I am protesting (at the expense of Paul/Carson)… I'm sure she and Paul are friends. And I know that that isn't the way it works, to hate someone whom has 'taken' his job... I just don't see the point in getting rid of Paul ... Like with Lexa Doig/Teryl Rothery (both of whom I'm a MASSIVE fan of!) - But they hardly ever use Carolyn Lam!! So, why didn't they just make the characters leaders of two different shifts in the SGC schedule, and, some days, the audience would see Janet, some days Carolyn..? (The answer to that is probably money, but still, if they're not sharing screen-time, & you only employ one at a time per episode, then, that adds to the flavour of the show the way you want to, doesn’t it??)...I'm sorry, Jewel, but we will still campaign to bring Paul/Carson back, because we believe in him, and his worth to the show, and are fed up with the penchant the Producers have in these latter years for killing off a character just to shake things up... It makes it seem as though they're too tired to think of any other way to do it! And Stargate, as a Product, and a company is/should be better than that..! All that said however, that doesn't mean that there isn't room for you, Jewel Staite, in the SGA family (as well as Paul!!)... I know of the anatomical differences between you and he, don't worry! And, in that sense, you're right, your character is a different entity, unattached, and not a replacement - But still, the way the producers have handled this is enough to make me unhappy... (though not with or at you!)

I don't have my own internet connection, but I had to find a way to tell you!! Did you not take any notice of how central and how integral a character Carson is in your own recent storyline (of) The Return, Season 3?? Have you forgotten how endearing/with strong moral fibre/and a heart from the Highlands wonderful Carson Beckett can be?? Why rid yourselves and your previously loyal and happy audience of such richness of character to explore and play around with in terms of writing??? Why, oh why?? Don't make us live without Carson on our television screens!! The real world is bleak enough... He was an albeit fictional joy to behold; bringing adventure and escapism and human kindness to our screens; He was worth tuning in for, and he brought out the best in all the other characters, too! The brand of interaction between characters that he helped facilitate, cannot be recaptured or bettered or even equaled. He is that important to the central well being of the show as well as the characters (in his role as Doctor!). His signature (the essence of the character/the input of the character) is so thoroughly vital, it is engrained into the continuing success of the show/the product, (as I have read others, including my friend, say) that is Stargate Atlantis. If you want it to continue to sell well, and be a success still, REINSTATE CARSON as a main character and Paul as a main cast member!!!

Janet Frasier, Jacob Carter, and oh, let's not forget how you virtually wrote out Daniel Jackson in Season 5 because you didn't think he had much left to offer the show..! Thank God Michael Shanks was able/willing/invited as he was (when we had protested enough) to come back, and show you all otherwise..! Daniel IS intergral to SG1, as CARSON is intergral to SGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please, be merciful and wise enough to hear, and heed our pleas! You hold the future of SGA in your hands! Without Carson, with him just racked up as yet another casualty along the way, you will only be showing us fans that you are tired and struggling to be imaginative (in the best possible way!)... Keeping him around and introducing the drama/the shake up factor somehow other than over-used main character death, will help to convince us of why we should keep watching, and assure us that SGA is not (as Carson is!) in its death throws/final moments..!!!! |

Three generations of us: Grandmother, mother, and granddaughter (me!)... We all share in a love particularly of Carson Beckett (!) & Paul McGillion... So, if you rid yourselves of him, and we lose the joy of seeing him on our screens/his input into the show, you will lose a whole family of viewers, and we will lose something we once shared as a family..! | 37 | Kathrin Braun | I've never writting a a fan letter or a death thread ;) and I've never tried to keep a character in a show. Because I always had the feeling that there was a reason for it. Michael Shanks went voluntarily and he came back voluntarily, Teryl Rothery did many episodes... I did't like them going, but I understood.
Now I don't.
I don't get it. Why would anyone want to get rid of Carson. Really, I don't see any reason. He is popular among the fans, not only female ones but among male fans, too, because he is funny and realistic and most of all, he is special. I've never seen a character like him in any show.
The chemistry between him and Rodney McKay is wonderful.
I think it will affect the popularity of the show if Carson dies and doesn't come back.
Carson (and his interactions with Rodney) was the one thing that drew me to the show in the first place.
