| 1 | Ronald Stello | I support this site and believe it is a good idea. You should back it up not shut it down. |
| 2 | Edgar Wells | I have Ubuntu installed on 3 computers and a avid Ubuntu user for the last 2 yrs.

| 3 | Crazy Penguin | Hey, Ubuntu, quit acting like Microsoft Jr. Ease up and help out Ourbuntu! |

| 5 | Anonymous | Yes I agree with ourbuntu,com, keep your name, it's your domain, and your site is rather very nice, and features Linux and Ubuntu systems, overall a positive for Linux and there's no reason for Ubuntu to request you change your domain name. They should thank you for your support. |
| 6 | Igor | Do not play fool ... do not play innocent... your main goal is to make buck out of work from others... yes, GPL license is giving that right... do not make us, readers, idiots...
Yes, I know, CentOS seems to do something similar with RHEL distribution... there is a difference between ourbuntu and centos... they are REALY putting together a distribution based on source code published by RedHat... they compile things, test it and package it.... and still giving it for free... What are you doing is a rip off.. you are just duplicating the CD and sell it under "we_are_helping_ubuntu_and_open_source"
WITHOUT putting any work into the CD...
SO my vote is AGAINST your petition. you should DROP 'ubuntu' from your site name !!! |

| 8 | Ken Lopez | Canonical = Microsoft ?! I hope not! |
| 9 | Chris Pollard | This is just silly Canonical!! It's as bad as Microsoft going after anyone with "dows" in their product name.
Don't screw your community. We can be a very fickle bunch, and there are no shortage of alternative distros to support. |

| 11 | Kyle Martin | Dear Canonical - kindly take a page from Google's handbook, do no evil. |
| 12 | Thomas Holbrook Ii | I agree with this petition. Fussing over a domain name is not only silly, but counterproductive. |
| 13 | Anonymous | Since Ubuntu is a normal word and no made up word there request is pretty arrogant in the first place. That is exactly the reason why they do not own and cannot own ubuntu.org. So how should they have any say in ourbuntu.com?
Also I think they should be glad about any initiative helping spread Ubuntu. |
| 14 | Chris Cox | Remember Thawte and the digital certificate rip-off.... no surprise. |
| 15 | tracyanne | Canonical's lack of response speaks volumes, and not the sort of volumes one should be proud of. |
| 16 | martin maros | |
| 17 | Thomas Johansson | I really don't see the problem. Have you (canonical) registered 'buntu' as a trademark as well??? If not then you have no right whatsoever to make these demands. It makes me want to register a domain name with 'buntu' in it in my country.
But, still love Ubuntu. |
| 18 | Anonymous | Its an attack on the community spirit
as far as i can see the site the site promotes Ubuntu.
this is classic M$ behavior ... really sad
if this site goes down ubuntu = M$ |

| 20 | Anonymous | If the story is true, so I do not understand any idea behind enforcing trademark in USA style. Is it result of globalization? |

| 22 | SamW | I'm presently an Ubuntu user running the latest stable, such tactics should not be used by those in the free software arena. |
| 23 | Ty Miles | The funny thing here is Canonical was not the first group to use Ubuntu as a name and they did not have the first Ubuntu URL or Website (Ubuntu.org did) so Ubuntu needs to calm down. |
| 24 | Danijel Orsolic | Well if this is true all I've really got to say is "WTF Canonical?? Give them a darn break!" I mean, seriously, there are numerous web sites out there with something-buntu in their name, do they go after all of them? |
| 25 | Jan Pesek | |
| 26 | Ed Ellingham | I like the idea of your site. I think it's an excellent idea actually. I also understand Ubuntu as looking as if they could be affiliated by the name, but a disclaimer obviously placed should take care of that. I think Ubuntu should support your effort though too...we're in this together and we're all trying to follow our passion with Linux and the idea. On another note, OurLinux.com would have given you a lot more room to grow :) |
| 27 | Biilly N. Sherman | At least give a complete and concise reason for not allowing the use of this domain before you deny it. Otherwise what's the harm in allowing it's use? |
| 28 | lenooh | I like your idea and the fact that you support Ubuntu, but I somehow also understand Canonical. An X visitor who does not know what Ubuntu is, might get the wrong idea by visiting your site. At least change the font in your logo :-) |
| 29 | Wiktor Wandachowicz | The guy really has an idea. This idea came from him and not from Canonical (maybe that's why they seem jealous to me?)
The idea to deliver a customized PC with Ubuntu installed for a fee is clever. The user pays for hardware and for the service (installation / configuration). Since everyone can install Ubuntu on any machine, I don't see a problem with this. How is this different from other IHV that provide customized machines with Ubuntu preloaded?
If the only reason for the denial is the "buntu" part in "ourbuntu" then I'd say that it looks like both sides have their reasons. But in the end Canonical may be right, just think about:
* mymicrosoft.com
* ouradidas.com
* yournba.com
It's definitely riding upon success of the originator. |

| 31 | Matthew McDanel | I understand that the legal aspects on using copyrighted material. I also understand the first instinct is to jump on anyone who steps on your ground, but I see this as a win win for both partys. Plus It falls under fair use anyway.
Just let the guy do what he does, and chances are you will benifit from it...even if only minimaly. |
| 32 | Tim Hodkinson | I don't think anyone would confuse ourbuntu with ubuntu |
| 33 | Nick Ist. | agreed! I hate when someone ignores your emails on purpose. |
| 34 | Edwin | You probably do not need permission to use ourbuntu.com and they know it. I think it is a good idea. I support your use if ourbuntu. If Ubuntu is so upset, let them offer to buy your domain name for 5 or 10 thousand. What is the big deal? Heck, Ubuntu should be happy you promote their software. You deserve a pat on the back from them, not the opposite. If Ubuntu operating system is GPLed, anyone is free to use it, or even sell it, if you can find someone stupid enough to buy a copy. It is free software, GPLed, but I would suggest the use of branding with the utmost respect to the creators thereof. That you should get permission to use. Out of respect; and being you love Ubuntu, so much the more respect the branding. IMHO But I see nothing wrong with this great domain and idea. EdwinStarr |
