PETITION
For REINSTATEMENT … ACCOUNTABILITY … and TRANSPARENCY
Whereas Archbishop O’Malley has taken punitive, arbitrary,
and capricious action against Rev. Walter Cuenin, pastor of Our
lady Help of Christians Parish of Newton, based on Archdiocesan
policies that were never communicated to him or the Our Lady
Help of Christians Finance Council and;
Whereas the Our Lady’s Finance Council approved all parish
expenditures including Rev. Cuenin’s stipend and the leasing
of a car for use by all priests at that church;
Therefore, we, the undersigned, believe that Fr. Walter Cuenin
has been unjustly forced to resign as pastor of Our Lady’s
Help of Christians Parish and demand that:
- Archbishop O’Malley immediately reinstate Fr. Walter
Cuenin as pastor of Our Lady’s and that Fr. Cuenin be
exonerated by the Archdiocese of any charges of financial impropriety
in
the most public way.
- An independent group of lay people be established, with
the full cooperation of Archbishop O’Malley and other
chancery officials, to examine the actions and circumstances
which led
to this series of events and the unanswered questions that
have arisen related to them and to issue a report on its findings.
- The Archdiocese immediately disclose all financial information
related to the salaries and any and all expense accounts
and allowances for all bishops and cabinet level staff,
including
leased cars, paid drivers, travel expenses within and outside
the United States, their housing costs, food, other living
expenses, and vacation homes and entertainment.
