This petition was designed to gather support for the Vodafone Warriors to sign Orene Ai'i for 2007 onwards in the National Rugby League (NRL) following Orene's announcement that he will be switching codes to Rugby League.
Orene Ai'i is a phenomenal athlete whom many believe would excel in Rugby League as part of the Vodafone Warriors in 2007.
Orene was a 2006 member of the Auckland Blues where he played a utility role. His primary role however is First 5/8ths. Orene's natural flare would make him a good match with the potent attacking ability of the Vodafone Warriors.
Orene's brilliance was recognised when he was named the 2005 IRB Sevens Player of the Year. Orene posed tremendous threat to any team he played against on the circuit - his footwork can be likened to Benji Marshall however many believe Orene is in a league of his own, far above anything else currently found in the fast paced modern day of rugby league.
The twinkle-toed 26 year old would be a perfect option at standoff for the Warriors, an area where they have lacked consistency throughout the season. His kicking game is superb and his handling is from another planet, often able to setup opponents when nobody, not even his own team mates, knew something was on.
Orene Ai'i is a mature player, who has had a favourable run with injuries. At 26, he is not only experienced but also tried and tested at the highest level. He has conquered every feat in rugby bar the All Blacks but is ready to switch codes.
Through his involvement with the 7's, Orene knows how to handle hard work and any challenge set before him. Orene's fitness is better than John Walker. His tackling is hard and exact. He has tremendous speed and is a finisher - able to dodge his way past anyone you put in front of him. Orene has a kicking game and his natural instinct is to setup anyone from anywhere with his precision passing that earned him his prestigious award.
This petition is in support of the Vodafone Warriors signing Orene Ai'i as a 5/8th who also could cover any position in the back line if need be.
The united fans believe that Orene would be a huge asset to the 2007 squad. Our halves is something that we have lacked this season however with Nathan Fien and Grant Rovelli in at hooker and halfback respectively (and starting to fire), we believe Orene would be a final answer to our lack of depth at 5/8ths and it would allow Ropati to shift back to his normal position where he plays his best football. |
