Governor Carcieri,
As a Rhode Island citizen and taxpayer I am outraged that you would ignore our current fiscal crisis and dole out another high-paying patronage job to Adelita Orifice, your longtime political ally.
In your State of the State speech last week you called on all Rhode Islanders to raise our voices and become involved in shaping this year's fiscal budget. I accept that challenge, and today I call on you to rescind the appointment of Adelita Orefice because it was made outside the realm of public scrutiny and comes with a $119,000 price tag that we, as taxpayers, simply cannot accept.
You have spoken at length about the need to cut costs and tighten belts at every level of government, but time and time again you refuse to enact any cost saving initiatives within your own office.
You have failed to demonstrate the necessary leadership to lift the state out of this fiscal crisis. Rather, you are all to quick to point the finger of blame and continuously refuse to work with the elected members in the General Assembly to find a common ground or offer any real solutions.
I'm a Rhode Islander, I care about the future of our state and I want you to understand I am engaged in the political process.
