Name: Trina Orton on Dec 29, 2007Comments: I do not believe that a dog's breed is responsible for its temperament. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure a safe and happy environment for his/her dog and, thus, the happiness of said animal. I had a Chow Chow growing up, and he was the most gentle dog I've ever had. I'd pull on his ears, tail, and black tongue, and not once did he ever even consider biting me. Thank you.Flag

Name: John Rasmussen on Dec 29, 2007Comments: Banning a dog based soley on it's breed is like banning a person based on it's color or creed. The owners are the ones to step up and take responsibility for their pets.Flag

Name: Kelly Halberg on Jan 2, 2008Comments: I was very offended when I tried to complete a rental application and was turned down because my dog was part german shepherd......I paid 20 bucks for her and she's nothing but wonderful to other dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, etc. She has been exposed to all of the above and reacts appropriately BECAUSE HER OWNER TAUGHT HER SO........STOP PENALIZING ANIMALS FOR WHAT THEY WERE TAUGHT BY DUMB ASS OWNERS......... I had a wolf hybrid who knew even more than other dogs what was right and wrong because it's UP TO THE OWNERS TO TEACH THAT......just like with childrenFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 2, 2008Comments: This is another example of punishing those who follow the law. This is extreme and I cannot believe that the majority of the voters have had an issue personally with these breeds. As a pet owner in the State of Texas, I know that there are so-called "best interest" groups that support monetarily political positions and do not have the best interest of the majority. It is imperative that this bill be reviewed and rewrote to be fair to all of the MN voters not just those who have money. Please do not be swayed and vote according your Minnesota constituents who do have a say as to who will be in office.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 2, 2008Comments: There should be other restrictions as to the owners of these breeds of dogs. For example, no one with a criminal record or violent history should be allowed to own them - you cannot BAN dogs.Flag

Name: Toni Skiles on Jan 2, 2008Comments: Dear Rep. Lesch, I please punish the deed not the breed. BSL is unfair to those of us who take great pride in socializing and training our dogs to be good representations of the breed. It is the owners of these "Vicious" dogs that need to be banned. You should put in place laws to punish the people and adhere to those laws. Make those who tie their dogs to post and beat them on a daily basis pay for what they do to these innocent animals. Thank youFlag

Name: Julie Crawford on Jan 2, 2008Comments: The real problem is NOT the breed of the dog, but irresponsible dog owners. Any breed can become aggressive towards people, and is usually the result of the Owner's lack of responsibility to train the dog.Flag

Name: Var St. Jeor on Jan 2, 2008Comments: We cannot legislate absolute safety in the world (even though some would try), life is inherently a risk. In this case, not every dog of the stated breeds are bad. Bad dogs, regardless of breed, are nearly always the result of owner treatment, or neglect, or poor training, and a few other things. Point being, one must consider such things on a dog-by-dog bases, not on a breed as a whole. I do not own any of the listed breeds, but once something like this starts, it WILL eventually lead to all breeds, because bad dogs can be found in all breeds, wild and domestic.Flag

Name: Jamie Koehler on Jan 2, 2008Comments: This sounds like a completely ridiculous bill!! Dog attacks are awful, and people should be held responsible for the actions of their pets, but an all ecompassing, blanket bill feels very invasive. What is next Not all dogs are aggressive, it is just that lazy people seem to really like to acquire more aggressive dogs and fail to discipline them properly. How is this law supposed to be enforced How is it to be determined which animals have lineages from certain breeds. What a joke!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 2, 2008Comments: Why stop there Aren't black people traditionally viewed as more likely to commit violent crimes Sen. Lech should propose a new law banning black people from Minnesota and any mix thereof. What a dumb @ss. I'm so glad our tax dollars aren't being wasted tackling real issues like the environment, social equality, and civil engineering.Flag

Name: Susan Gottfried on Jan 3, 2008Comments: Every dog is unique. Punishing entire breeds, and their owners, does not serve the public good. There is no valid data indicating these 5 breeds, as a whole, are a danger to society. Please take the time to get to know some of these sweet dogs in their loving homes. And please oppose this unfair legislation.Flag

Name: Jessica Cook on Jan 4, 2008Comments: This is cruel!!!!!! This is in no way humane. It is PURGING!!! The Holocaust wasn't right and this is the same thing with dogs. I've grew up with ChowChows and my Chow was the best dog I've ever had. We live in a free country and controlling what type of dog breeds are allowed violates that.Flag

Name: Sarah Maasch on Jan 9, 2008Comments: Please educate yourself on this issue - banning breeds will not solve nor is your proposal going to the root of the problem. Education of owners and the public (start bite prevention info in elementary schools), holding owners responsible for their dogs, and reducing the over-population problem by banning puppy mills, backyard breeders, etc. is the way to attack this problem - not banning breeds!Flag

Name: Leah Bourgeois on Jan 14, 2008Comments: Breed banning is an effective removal of owner and victim responsabillity for any past injuries. This law would also undoubtedly alienate countless service and therapy dogs in addition to well diciplined pets and their law abiding owners. I can't help but think that putting criminality of existance on domestic stock is a poor president to set.Flag

Name: Amy Werner on Jan 18, 2008Comments: I would like to see stricter laws regarding dogs that have been deemed dangerous for their own behavior, than see general laws about specific breeds. Perhaps laws restricting the number of dogs that owners are allowed to have, determined by the area they live in (i.e. more densely populated areas are allowed fewer animals).Flag
