Name: Jen Schramke on Jun 28, 2007Comments: this is a cruel and misinformed ban. Irresponsible pet owners should be held responsible for agressive dogs. Irresponsible pet owners are not restricted to any breed, therefore baning any particular breed is an absurd "solution". All breeds are capable of agression, and thusly, are also capable of being gentle, loving family pets. I strongly urge you NOT to follow through with this heartless ban that would single out responsible pet owners statewide. there are other FAR more sutiable solutions to this problem.Flag

Name: David Dettloff on Jun 28, 2007Comments: This ban is ridiculous, I believe that dogs that have attacked people, and their owners, need to be held accountable, and that public safety is important. however blanket breed bans, and mass killings of peoples pets is unconscionable . I am the proud owner of a 12 year Chow Chow who is one of the sweetest and kindest dogs I have ever know, and she has never even tried to bite or snap at anyone, and loves everyone she meets, especially children. This law would take away my pet of the last 12 years and kill her for no reason other than the fact that she is a Chow Chow.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 28, 2007Comments: It is NOT fair to condemn an entire breed based on the actions of certain individuals. My mother used to own a wolf-hybrid. Her best friend owns a Rottweiler. One of my friends has a Pit Bull. All of these dogs are some of the sweetest dogs you could possibly imagine. They didn't choose to be the breed that they are, no more than you or I chose to be a certain race. If a certain race of people statistically caused the most crime, would we automatically assume that every single person of that race was violent No, of course not! Please don't punish the innocent for crimes that they did not commit.Flag

If it's liability in question shouldn't we be focusing on the people who abuse these animals or the people who lack complete responsiblity for their pets. Instead your condemning a breed. Is there no compassionFlag

Name: Lori Haferman on Jun 29, 2007Comments: This is the worst idea I've heard from a legislator yet. Don't they have better things to worry about like funding my kids school, and dealing with the overcrowded roads I drive. I think there is a problem with aggression in some dogs, but as a responsible owner, I know the problem is not the dogs, but the irresponsible owners. After these "bad" breeds are gone, the bad owners will begin to own labs and shepherds and other large dogs. Will they be banned next The government is not be able to legislate common sense. I personally feel I have the brains to take care of myself and my dog without the government doing it for me. Let's enforce or strengthen the existing laws, make the owners responsible for their dogs. Banning any breed is a stupid idea.Flag

Name: Diana Dircks on Jun 29, 2007Comments: This is an out rage!!! There is no one breed that is good or bad but rather good and bad in all breeds. The blame of a dogs behavior lies with the owner. Owner need to be responsible enough to train there animal and to admit when an animal is agressive. I am a Vet Tech and most of the breeds on the list are some of the nicest breeds I have ever worked with.Flag

Name: Melissa Greer on Jun 29, 2007Comments: Being a certifed veterinary technician at the University of Minnesota Veternary Medical Center for over five years I have encountered many breeds including those on the proposed ban list. This is not only a disservice to the community but to also the animals them selves. It is our job as humans to take care of the animals that we continually put in the world. It is not scientifically proven that the listed breeds are more dangerous than others. It is a multi faceted issue. People choose to train (and/or neglect) their animals to act in this way. It is the humans that should be responsible for the actions of the animals. It is my opinion that Representative John Lesch is not qualified to make this decision and in doing so would be doing an embarrassment to the state and community at large.Flag

Name: Gina Marchio on Jun 29, 2007Comments: You are rediculious if you think this is going to pass. Pits, Chow Chows, Rots... ect. are some of the most loving dogs out there. I have been around all of them throughout my life and I plan on doing so in the future. Why don't you put your efforts and energy towards the abusive people who train these dogs to fight Instead you want to take away all of these beautiful dogs just because of some stupid peoples choices This will never pass! You can not take a dog who is like a child to someone away from them. What ever happened to the "freedom" in America Stop being a bunch of liberal douche-bags and fight for the REAL problem here.Flag

Name: Krista D. Peterson on Jun 29, 2007Comments: Representative John Lesch's efforts are misguided. To fix the problem of dog attacks we as a society must demand responsible dog owners. Dogs of any breed raised in a healthy environment of love, boundries and dicipline can be good dogs. I am a pit bull owner and my dog is gentle and obedient. He has his Canine Good Citizen certificate and excells in Agility. He is such a wonderful dog, it's a shame that he is judged by his breed and not by his behavior.Flag

Name: Colin Partridge on Jun 29, 2007Comments: This is an ill-considered proposal which targets thousands of innocent animals, whose only offence is to be owned by indivuduals who ill treatsthem. A much more effective proposal would be to prosecute the owners of any breed of dog that proves to be dangerous.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 29, 2007Comments: This proposal in assinine.. while I agree wolf hybrids should require special permission because these animals are , in fact , potentially more dangerous than wild wolves ( ask a wolf or wildlife biologist for the answer to this one..) domestic dogs are far more influenced by their training . As a veterinary professional, I'ver been around a few thousand dogs.. I have been lunged at by Labs, and Goldens.. never by a rottie or a pit bull.. All dogs posess the potential to hurt humans.. sometimes out of fear, or poor training /socialization... Yes, a Rottie bite can do more damage than a yorkie bite, but the fact is.. a well mannered dog is mostly enviromental.. not genetic. This proposal sounds like a knee-jerk reaction from someone who is afraid of big dogs...Flag

Maybe the legislator should ban abusive, irresponsible owners....maybe there should be laws banning people from keeping there dogs chained up all day, or teached bully breeds to be guard dogs. Aren't we causing enough species and breed extinction This ban encourages it!Flag
