Dear Sir or Madam: We the undersigned Constituents strongly urge you, as our Representative, to OPPOSE HB 614. We primarily oppose on the grounds that it violates the privacy and due process rights of Georgia citizens under Article I, Section I, Paragraphs I and XIII of the Georgia Constitution. We also place a great deal of importance on the provider/patient relationship for clinical decisions about appropriate care, and oppose any efforts that might have an adverse effect on health care providers’ willingness and ability to provide medication and/or pain management when treating patients. Furthermore, the government experiences more data breaches than any other sector, and that the monitoring provisions of the recommendation would be akin to any other type of eavesdropping program. The Department of Justice and Drug Enforcement Agency back this bill NOT Health and Human Services. The DOJ blatantly states on its website : "The purpose of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program is to enhance the capacity of regulatory and law enforcement agencies to collect and analyze controlled substance prescription data." That statement alone tells We the People that our Rights to Privacy and Due Process and PRIVATE health care are NOT the concern of this bill. Again, We STRONGLY URGE you to OPPOSE GEORGIA HB 614.
