Name: Andrea Keller on Apr 3, 2010Comments: My son is 14 non verbal and can't speak for himself. I do that, as does every other parent in the same situation as myself. Ari Ne'eman can't possibly speak for these children. I vehemently reject his nomination. Anyone against a cure for "autism" is not the right person for the job. Autism as I know it needs to be cured ASAP. Thank you.Flag

Name: John Best on Apr 3, 2010Comments: Ari Ne'eman refers to himself as "autistic" when he is diagnosed with "Asperger's Syndrome". This is blatant fraud and Mr Ne'eman should be charged with fraud for misrepresenting the true horror that is "autism". "Autism" is a specific term that, by definition, refers to the lowest rung on the autism spectrum. Behaviors inherent to "autism" include feces smearing, head banging, self-biting, bashing one's head on cement, never gaining the ability to speak, read or write, or to use a toilet. These people deserve every effort to ameliorate their condition and it is simply wrong for Mr Ne'eman to have any influence whatsoever in deciding policy on how to help these severely impacted "autistic" people. Please cancel Ne'man's nomination and charge him with the crime of fraud instead.Flag

Name: Robert J. Krakow on Apr 3, 2010Comments: I bear no animus toward Mr. Ne’eman. I view Mr. Ne’eman as an excellent self-advocate but one who ill serves the interests of large and important segments of the community. I am a parent of a developmentally disabled child, 10-year Board member and former Chair of an organization that serves 6000 developmentally disabled persons every day, and a professional attorney and advocate for the developmentally disabled.Flag

Name: Anne McElroy Dachel on Apr 3, 2010Comments: We don't need someone advocating for autism as just an alternate lifestyle which only requires public awareness and acceptance. Autism is a epidemic that is affecting one percent of children. No official has yet to describe this as a crisis. No one is sounding an alarm. I can't imagine a worse way to address this disaster than to appoint Ari Ne'eman as a spokesman for autism. Anne Dachel Media editor: Age of AutismFlag

Name: Karen Priestner on Apr 3, 2010Comments: Mr. Ne'eman represents a small minority of the people who are affected by autism. While his stance is very valid for people similar to himself, autism is a widely varied disorder, hence the term "spectrum". I would hope that a representative on the national disability council would be able to respect the viewpoints of ALL people with disabilities, and not just represent his own personal point of view. For this reason, I am asking that you consider not having Mr. Ne'eman serve on this council but to find a candidate with the ability to represent the disability community at large, not just his own opinions.Flag

Name: Chris O'Connell on Apr 3, 2010Comments: Please reconsider your nomination and choose someone who has the needs and interests in mind for those with more severe autism who can not advocate for themselves. Mr. Ne'eman is an inspiration to those with higher functioning forms of autism but he does not share the beliefs that I or any of my friends with severely autistic / vaccine injured children have regarding research and treatment of this disorder. He would be a very poor representative for the vast majority of those afflicted with and affected by this epidemic. Sincerely, Chris O'Connell Father of a vaccine injured, mercury poisoned, 4 year old little girl with regressive autism. Please HELP us... McKinney, TexasFlag

Name: Maryellen Weinberg on Apr 3, 2010Comments: My 10 year old son struggles every day with social challenges of Asperger's syndrome and he has said to me, 'I wish my brain wasn't different.' This is heartbreaking for any parent to hear. My son WANTS a cure. He WANTS friends. We strive everyday to do what's best for him to get him those things. And Mr. Ne'eman's agenda, just because he may not be as affected as others, just doesn't sit well with me.Flag

Name: KATHERINE MILLS on Apr 3, 2010Comments: One young man with Aspergers should know how difficult it is for other young men with Autism, on the spectrum, which is wide and varied. One size does not fit all in this case. We mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins do all we can to help our kids but now that the funding has dried up our grandson, who is diagnosed with PDD-NOS, has not been able to take the music lessons, which he loves, nor have INDIVIDUAL swimming lessons, or private if you will for the same reason. Autism has become an epidemic of enormous proportion. We need someone with comprehensive experience who knows what our kids need, not some kid who has no experience and is only voicing opinions he obviously knows nothing about. Please, we need help, not criticism.Flag

Name: Mary Ludwig on Apr 3, 2010Comments: My son has improved immensely under careful medical care. Anyone who discourages parents from at least trying to solve the painful medical issues that plaque many children with more severe autism must not have appropriate empathy and feelings. Oh, right, that's Aspergers! Please read up on autism and pick someone like Dr. Elizabeth Mumper, who understands all issues of all types of autism! Please ask the Autism Research Institute for some ideas. They are the oldest and most respected organization in autism.Flag

Name: Vicki Hill on Apr 3, 2010Comments: No 22 year old is mature enough to represent and understand all of the complex issues surrounding autism. A 22 year old with autism, even one on the very high end of the spectrum, does not have the insight or level of experience to represent not only his own portion of the spectrum but also that of those who are far more profoundly affected. It is one thing to include him as a member because of his disability; it is quite another to include him AS A REPRESENTATIVE for an entire class of people often unable to speak up for themselves.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 3, 2010Comments: Ari Ne'eman's concept of severe autism seems to be individuals who can communicate intelligently and coherently with the help of an electronic device. I've never seen him reference those who are so severely affected that they cannot express themselves eloquently. How can Ne'eman work for equal opportunities for all people with disabilities when he himself won't even acknowledge that very severely impaired people with autism exist? Does anybody actually believe the premise of his no myths video, that "people with autism can do anything anybody else can do, even if it isn't in the same way"? This is fraud. It shows how he misrepresents autistics, and sweeps the most impaired individuals, and their problems, under the rug: www.nomyths.orgFlag

Name: Angela Klingler on Apr 3, 2010Comments: Mr. Ne'eman has spoken out vocally against medical treatments for autism. My son has autism, apraxia & severe allergies. We had perfect credit however we're short selling our house to help pay for our son's medical needs. We will do what it takes to help our son live a better life. Please, find a person to fill this position that is compassionate towards the needs of families living with autism. Sincerely, Angela KlinglerFlag

I strongly oppose his nomination and believe that he is an insult to families living with autism.Flag
