Comments: We consider Franciscan U. of Steubenville and Ave Maria U as having replaced Notre Dame as the premier Catholic U. in this country. ND has sealed its own fate due to its liberal, far left leadership. You did it to yourself.

Comments: My father and grandfather would be terribly disappointed in ND for giving Obama not only an opportunity to speak at the graduation, but also the honorary degree. Is there no Catholic man or woman worthy of these things Did ND have to choose an affirmed enemy of the unborn

Comments: Please do not provide President Obama a forum of honor at America’s premier Catholic University by inviting him to speak at commencement. You are lending your prestige to the world’s most visible champion of abortion and destructive embryonic stem cell research. The tragedy of Catholicism today is that because self-identified Catholics dominate all branches of the government, Catholics could put an end to the bloodshed if we wanted to. Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, Chris Dodd, John Kerry, Justice Anthony Kennedy, and hundreds of others in power all claim to be Catholic. Like the political elite, the administration of Catholic Universities must choose either the adulation of the media, or doing what’s right. Although I recognize there will be a price to pay, in academic prestige, research grants, and bad press, a Catholic institution must choose principle over popularity. You claim that inviting Obama to Notre Dame will be “a catalyst for dialogue.” On the contrary, it will be a “catalyst for monologue”. Obama will do all the talking and you will provide him the legitimacy that comes from being an honored guest at a Catholic University. What message are Catholics to take when Catholic University presidents are disobedient to the Church Your actions marginalize true Catholics fighting for human life. Non-Catholics look at prominent Catholic-in-name-only politicians and University presidents, and assume that human life is an optional value even for Catholics, and that human life is really a concern only to the lunatic fringe. How, exactly, do you plan to engage Obama in “dialogue” Are you planning to have a co-commencement speaker to engage him in debate How are you planning to stand up for the weakest among us
