There it is again. The government trying to 'save people from themselves'. We don't need to cut the trees. Yes, that part of I-26 has a bad record but it has nothing to do with the trees. It is only 2 lanes going both ways. I can't count the times both lanes have been blocked bytrucks and cars doing much less than the speed limit in both lanes. Impatience, distraction and being tired all play a part of the problem. That part of I-26 has always been a problem...at least the last 45 years. When the 202 Rest area was built, it was definitely in error. There should have been one coming in to the Charleston area around the I95 and I26 corridor. That would have made more sense. I think the COG needs to seriously rethink their decision to cut the trees. South Carolina residents don't need the tax bill attached to that project. It will become a never ending tax burden and a big one at that. The trees act as a natural barrier now. They will be more forgiving than any man-made barriers. Further, if the trees are taken out, it will only endanger travelers on the opposite side of the interstate. Was it also mentioned that if a auto hits the wire dividing the two sides it would need replacing EVERY time someone hits it? It's not a small charge either. This idea of COG and DOT is downright stupid.
