At the same time various opinion polls in Ukraine since gaining independence in 1991, have been consistently showing that majority of Ukrainian citizens support closer integration of Ukraine with the European Union. The Law of Ukraine "On Principles of Domestic and Foreign Policies" also declares the integration of Ukraine with the political, economical and legal systems of the European Union as one of the country's priorities.

Unfortunately, it has become obvious recently that the Ukrainian authorities have not been paying enough attention both to the opinion of the people and to the corresponding provision of the Law. Given this fact, we, the people of Ukraine, have formed "We are Europeans" movement. The movement sprang to life on 20 October 2011 as a group in one of the social networks. This group is now featuring some thousands active followers and participants and keeps growing.

We declare that our main goal is promotion of European values, as stated into the Copenhagen Criteria and public pressure on the government to make sure that those values are implemented.

We express our deep concern over the recent tensions in the relationships between Ukraine and the European Union and support for further integration of Ukraine with the European Union. We believe that the European Union should proceed with signing of the Association Agreement with Ukraine. Any delays may not be justified by any actions of the Ukrainian authorities because the signing of this Agreement is at first the will of the majority of people.

We believe that by joining efforts with the European diplomacy, the Ukrainian civil society can contribute to promoting closer integration of Ukraine with the European Union. And we believe also the summit that takes place 19^th December will be successful for both parties and bring good results and future hopes.
