Please sign our online petition and notify your friends about the importance of bringing open government to North Bergen.  We, the undersigned, strongly urge North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the North Bergen Board of Commissioners to quickly adopt practices that will create more open and transparent government for the citizens of North Bergen. In particular we want the Mayor and Commissioners to revise the current North Bergen Commission meeting agenda to include specific language about the matters to be considered by the town’s governing body. Specific language will include the names and description of ordinances and resolutions to be considered by the Board of Commissioners, a listing of the bills authorized to be paid by the commissioners and the amount of each bill; the name of the payee and the services provided by the payee. We also demand that the detailed agenda be posted on the borough website 72 hours in advance of a commission meeting so the public can review the actions under consideration by the commission.Further, in order to encourage more public participation in Commission meetings we demand that the Board of Commissioners reschedule their meeting to weekday evenings. The current Commission meetings are scheduled at 11 a.m.; a time when most people are working and are unable to attend.
