The government has officially moved to sanction and regulate mixed martial arts in Ontario. We are now shifting our focus to monitoring the implementation of the new regulatory framework to ensure the process remains consistent with the Unified Rules.

Dear Premier Dalton McGuinty,

We, the residents of Ontario, as well as international visitors to Ontario, hereby sincerely request that your government take the necessary steps to sanction and regulate the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in our province.

We ask that you task the The Honourable Sophia Aggelonitis, Minister of Consumer Services, as well as Ken Hayashi, the Ontario Athletic Commissioner, to review the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, as listed on the Associtation of Boxing Commission's website,  which the Ontario Athletic Commission is a member of, and to join the rest of the municipalities and provinces who have already blessed this safe, viable and profitable sport.

We, hereby believe, that under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, the athletes who choose to compete in MMA, can do so in a safe and regulated manner.

We, the residents, visitors, competitors and consumers of Mixed Martial Arts have traveled, competed and spent millions of dollars outside of Ontario to support the sport of MMA, but we hereby request we are granted the right and ability to support the sport in our own province.

We hope that through your research, as well as that of The Honourable Sophia Aggelonitis and Ken Hayashi, you will find that the sport can be a safe one for all it's competitors, both male and female, as well as for each and every one of it's consumers, and by sanctioning and regulating the sport of MMA, the millions of dollars that have been spent outside of the province since 1993, can now be spent within the great province of Ontario.

Sincerely,

The Residents of, and Visitors to, the Province of Ontario

I end up driving to Montreal for every big fight. Would love to keep my money in Toronto instead.

Ontario is missing out on so much revenue. It makes no sense to keep this banned here.

TOTAL NONSENSE. The sport is regulated everywhere else and it works fine. Get it done already!

Its about time Ontario catches up to the rest of the world. Why are we losing money to other provinces because of outdated rules?

MMA is safer than boxing half the time. Stop living in the past and let these athletes compete at home.

Finally some common sense. Hope this passes soon so we can actually see a proper event here.
