In the last few years our city has grown and traffic has increase on O'Loane Avenue. As more residential homes are built in this area traffic will not only increase but homes will obstruct the view of oncoming trains from the west. This is one of two railway crossings within city limits without warning lights. In October 2009 GEXR Railway applied to Transportation Canada for a grant to cover the cost of lights at this crossing. On May 14, 2010 the grant was denied as this crossing "is not high enough priority". According to Doug MacKenzie of GEXR the railway is not willing to pay for the lights. It is my understanding that the City of Stratford has approached GEXR about installing lights but has been unsuccessful as well. As a community we need to stand up and fight for our safety. Thank you for your support and hopefully together we can make a difference.
