The Government Of India has no plans of giving any pension to the Indian(Registered) merchant navy seafarer till today,The Seafarers Welfare Fund Society which comes under the Ministry Of Shipping is continuously recieving funds from foreign and Indian ship owners, being the differential of international wages, from 1978 onwards an amount of Rs:200/-@(5$)per month is being given as ex-gratia monetary assistance to the retired seamen and widows of seafarers that too after every six months. For the last 32 years this is being going on and till today this amount has not been en-hanced,the retired saefarer of India and their families are stranded in a very pathetic situation, once nicknamed as the Ambassadors of India are now laid off in the footpaths. Its high time for the Government Of India ,and the International Community to enquire at the highest level and do something fruitful for the retired Indian merchant navy seafarer without delay.
