Name: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2009Comments: Read Article 11 of the 1796 Treat of Tripoli, which was sent by none other than President John Adams to congress in May 1797 and was passed by unanimous vote. It reads: "Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 3, 2009Comments: We do not teach tolerance. Tolerance is to say immoral behavior is ok. It is NOT! We as Catholics/christians teach love and peace, to say there is hope for those who fall short of the glory of God. With prayer and fasting all may with the help of each other and our Blessed Mother, may come to the Throne of Grace. Amen.Flag

Name: David on Jul 3, 2009Comments: Have you never heard in the constitution that there is supposed to be a separation of church and state It is people like Rep. Kerns that is making Oklahoma the laughing stock of the country. We need a better tax base in our community, we cannot get that with such hatred by people like Sally. She should be ashamed of herself for using her elected position to read a proclamation like this at the state Capitol. Let us tolerance. Not everyone in this state is a religious zealot, some of us want to treat everyone fairly, regardless of their situation. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Keep your religion to yourself or in your churches, not in the capitol.Flag
