Kathryn S. Luzzi | I was a 4 year Varsity swimmer at Miami University in the 1980s. I can't imagine being given this news while I was a member of a team at a school that had promised me four years of competitive opportunity when I signed!

Charles Terrano | To suddenly stop the sport ,when you made committments to your players, is wrong. Students enrolled in your school to play these sports. If you are going to stop certain sports, do it 4 years in the future so you are not putting these kids lives in turmoil. That's who my heart goes out to. I know a Freshman Lacrosse player who wants to play so badly that she is looking to transfer to other schools. That is disruptive and unfair. Nobody ever said that there was a possiblility the Lacrosse team could be terminated. Please re-consider your decision to terminate the programs.

Anonymous | save these sports. It is criminal to cut off kids that have given so much time and dedication in their lives. Swimming especially, is the most time consuming sport of all, to cut off these kids that have done it their whole lives is heartbreaking.
Dianne Lamina | Please reinstate these very important programs!
Susan Rogers | As no notice was given to the players this year, it seems ridiculous & unethical to cancel! There must be some other alternative. The University &/or Athletic Dept. must have known that this could happen, as budgets are typically done way in advance.
Anonymous | Thank You guys for coming up with this idea. Being a high school jounior and hopeing to run for Ohio University this came as quite a shock. You are doing a great deed for track fans.
Sue Le Blanc |
Steve and Mary E. | Swimming is a life long sport and these athletes work very hard - and long hours - for their successes. Don't take that from them.

Anonymous | I think it is horrible to cut mens swimming from your program. This would be a huge step backwards ... you are a state school with many different types of athletes ... too much is spent on Football ... it should be about your students not just about money ! Reinstate mens swimming ...
Lyn Hyduke | Swimming is a great sport for life!

Wesley Williams | As a former OU athlete, I was very disappointed when hearing the Universities decision to cut any type of sports program mid year. I understand the school is facing a financial burden but the removal of successful athletic programs is not the correct way of going about trying to compensate for the deficit. I am sure that the university spends a substantial amount of it's funds annually on unnecessary expenditures; ie: Frank Solitch's salary as well as bonus incentives. The student/athlete experience at a colligate level is something that all individuals who are gifted enough to partake in will remember the rest of their lives. In addition to just the memories, each student/athlete will attribute playing college sports to the person they are when they lay their heads each night. In the end my point is Ohio University should strongly consider the benefits of reinstating women's lacrosse, men's swimming and diving, and men's indoor/outdoor track both for the school as whole and those you have effected by taking away the games they love so much.

Anonymous | I would like to say that, what is Ohio University football team, and what do they have better than the swim team. Swimmers dedicate so much time and effort to the program, and then its all down the tubes(no pun intended). To fully enjoy college as a student/athelete, you have to be happy with both aspects, but now one of the aspects is gone, you do the math. I strongly encourage you to not cut the swim team for the football program.

Elmore Banton | I do not think the the university looked at ways to solve the problem of dificit spending and Title IX. I believe that they took the easy way out of the situation.
| 2136 | carol warren | let's continue to provide opportunities to all athletes
again it is disappointing to see such inequity between football and other meaningful sports |
Tyler Smith | I'm on Miami's womens swim team. This is a tragedy! These boys work hard to compete and deserve to be recognized. This decision doesn't just affect OU. It affects every men's team in the MAC conference. They will all suffer when they are forced to find different conferences to compete in. It may be the last straw before other programs are similarily cut. As a fellow athlete and competitor, I feel for these kids. It absolutely breaks my heart.
Raymond Foster |
| 2139 | Chris Tocci | I am a "Starter" for US Swimming, and I believe the actions of Ohio University will be determental for the current students on the swimming team and for the entire US swimming community
It appears the only sports you are not cutting are the ones that can make you money..... always follow the money trail! |

Mary Davies |
Jacquelyn M Basso | Please retain the OU swim program. We cannot continue to cut program sports there are many young boys and girls who aspire to continue their love of the sport and competitive spirit as they continue to academic careers in college.
John Benjamin |
Amy Rafferty | As a former D1 college swimmer, I think that the cutting of the sports programs is a travesty. Especially if the funding to support these programs is clearly available and being earmarked for football--a sport with limited opportunity for most people.
James T. Rauth |
patrick mccarthy | this decision was not well thought out.
Karen Rogan | Not every kid can be a football player. Funding to other sports is important to the deveolpment of a wide group of students, not just a select few.
James Aftosmis | for you mck
PegE O. Harsh |
Cindy Jennings | I was a swimmer for 18 years and to this day still swim in the Masters program. Please do NOT do away with the Ohio University swim program...swimming for LaSalle University myself was the BEST decision of my life.
