Comments: Arts and culture are very important part of our life. Oakland Art scene has been developing with many up-and-coming talented artists, and Pro Art Gallery has been very instrumental in promoting and supporting Bay Area artists.

Comments: Please keep the already limited Oakland arts funding. The arts not only save lives, but they make good economic sense. The arts are an investment in people and communities.

Comments: The ability to enjoy and create art is vitally important to low-income people. My life would be so much the worse without access to the arts. The arts should not just be a privilege for those that can afford enjoying art and being in environments where creativity is inspired.

Comments: I am a bay area artist and an active member of Pro Arts. Cuts in funding will be catastrophic to the struggling artists, teachers, staff personnel and the residents of the city of Oakland. Times are hard but activity in the arts helps to keep morale up and creativity flowing. I am very alarmed at the idea of cutting the youth programs as Oakland has enough problems with the young people of Oakland without taking away an important creative outlet for them.

Comments: Depriving us of Art funding is just as bad as depriving us of food! We need art not just to have art, but to keep the soul of the city nourished.

Comments: I have heard that there may be a cut back in funding for the Arts in Oakland. Please, as a constituent of yours living on 56th St. find a way of preventing a loss of funding. I am a supporter and member of the Pro Arts Studio and supporter of the Oakland Museum. We need art in our lives and in our schools. Joe James

Comments: It is understandable that funding everywhere is tight, but cutting funding for the arts is the begining of the end for the city of Oakland. This city especially needs to keep the kids from trouble, and needs to give them skills that will be positive for out culture.

Comments: We do not have a theater company and now the visual arts program that is centrally located and accessible to young fols is being threatened. We have no life or arts. we offer our community nothing. what is the city for just the basics. Everyone needs and deserves more.

Comments: Arts funding is not a luxury. Oakland needs the Cultural Arts Department to thrive. Imagine a world without art and that is where we will all be living - or leaving to find it elsewhere.

Comments: I work for MOCHA and am very active in the arts community in the city of Oakland, as you know we struggle enough as it is to make a living as a working artist and we need all the help we can get but more important we as artist are more interested in bringing the arts to our under served community, most important our children in these communities we depend on grants and arts based organizations to help us with this. If you have not noticed Oakland has become the new hot spot for the arts we are giving San Francisco a run for their money, how can continue to compete if we do not have the monetary means with which to do so,
