Comments: This would be a great and much-needed addition to the downtown Oakland area. There are no other such stores within a several mile radius, and so the market for such a store would include several hundred thousand residents from Oakland, Berkeley, and the greater East Bay -- an area very underserved by department stores currently (most of them are in San Francisco, or in the suburban malls). Moreover, downtown Oakland has excellent transit access (AC Transit buses and BART), and over 10,000 new residents will be moving into new high-rise housing that is currently being planned and constructed downtown: this translates into thousands of new, potential customers. Lastly, were Macy's to show a vote of confidence in Oakland by opening a store downtown, much other retail would likely follow, increasing the liveliness of the street and increasing the number of people who would likely shop there.

Comments: i just moved from the bay area to Atlanta, i love the bay, but grew tired of the crazy living expenses, and the fact that Oakland has not moved forward from it's 70's heyday, as a Oakland resident i had to go spend my money in every city around Oakland that has shopping, food and entertainment complexes...and watch my money work in the other cities like Emeryville, Hayward, San Leandro, S.F., and not enjoy jobs and seeing the tax dollars work for the city residents, get those tired ass city council people out of there, there is not enough going on to offset those high ass prices people pay to live in the Bay Area...Oakland may have missed the boat for the new development, and need to now do something with that tired ass Jack London Square....New blood is needed, a new city manager to get more big businesses downtown oakland, a new city planner to get more revitalization going on there..it is happening everywhere but Oakland, we had the NBA all Star game there a few years ago, and once again Oakland was not prepared to reap the financial gains of the event being there, not enough hotels, no shopping, no restaurants, no nightlife...people said it was the worst NBA allstar ever....

Comments: I just moved into a condo in downtown Oakland and would love to shop in downtown Oakland and not have to go to Bay Street. Please come to Oakland Macy's. You can even use the beautiful former Emporium building and get rid of Sears

Comments: In a city of over 400K why don't we have places to shop in our city and not Emeryville. Emeryville is not transit friendly compared to Oakland. I just don't get it.

Comments: Oakland is the hub of the East Bay Area as it is the easiest to access from so many outlying points. Oakland is rapidly being enhanced and a major Macy's would be a big asset for easy shopping....coming from Walnut Creek, BART accessibility would be great for "city shopping!"

Comments: Downtown Oakland needs a major dept. store & with all the new apartments and condos going up & with the new Whole Foods, it seems like a logical thing to do, since the will be a population looking for places to shop.

Comments: Please bring a store to ALAMEDA, CA. The incomes in Alameda with a minium of $70,000 a year would surely make Macy's a profit maker.
