Please Stand up for Tibet Helen Clark

467 Signatures Goal: 500

By signing the trade agreement with China, New Zealand is about to work more closely with China. Before the trade agreement has been signed we must not overlook human rights violations which are clearly happening right now. We the undersigned call on you, Ms Clark (and the rest of the delegation) to use your visit to China and the leverage this Free Trade agreement may provide, to strongly urge the Chinese Government: * to respect the human rights of Tibetans (as set out in the Chinese constitution) and to immediately free all Tibetans currently incarcerated for expressing their political and religious beliefs; * to allow international monitors and journalists access to Tibetan areas to ascertain exactly what is happening; * and to engage in direct negotiations with the Dalai Lama for a genuine and meaningful solution to the Tibetan issue.
