Comments: I would hope that the new York times would employ critics who based their opinions on the merits of the work and not color that in the context of race...mr Johnson has basically said the work is inferior because it was made by African American artists..that is an oversimplification but essentially that's the gist of what he wrote.

Comments: Why Ken Johnson's article passed the muster of a seasoned cultural editor or the lack of diverse perspectives, and experiences discussing visual art on one of the biggest cultural platforms in world is another question entirely.

Comments: Since Ken Johnson is neither the first or the last person to frame these assumptions and questions so unthinkingly, I sign this petition with the hope that said isses will become part of an open, clear conversation.

Comments: The thinking in Johnson's writing is just plain sloppy. But the main problem is his underlying premise that any art movement comprised of artists of color was necessarily more politicized and therefore less accessible than any art movement comprised of white artists.

Comments: Such an egregious, eurocentric NYTimes description in stark contrast to the careful, historically contexualized curating and art historical writing in the exhibition catalog!
