Comments: It is difficult to not become demoralized at the concurrent facts of enormous irresponsible "loss" of dollars through malfeasance, ineptitude, and a dearth of effective oversight in prosecuting the immoral war in Iraq, and the enormous struggle to balance the New York State budget without sacrificing resources for education and essential human service and infrastructure needs. I would suggest that a better use of public dollars would include draconian review of the Pentagon budget and advocacy for the proper role of the New York State National Guard - i.e. defense and support at home. I heartily support the need for the National Guard to be well prepared and that the precious lives of all the Guard not be squandered in a foot-dragging, way too protracted plan for withdrawal from Iraq. While I share some of the public concern re recent revelations about Governor Patterson, it seems to me that he now has an opportunity to show great leadership in advocating for the people of the state by bringing the Guard home. Thank you for organizing this petition. I hope that it has some impact. Rae Kramer
