| 284 | sarah safford | Even in our very progressive school it has been difficult to get recycling going mainly because the experience was that even if students and teachers recycled, the custodians would put all the trash together in the end, because that's how the pick up system was arranged. So why bother?
Now, thanks to some dedicated teachers , parents and students we are bringing recyclables to the curb and starting a compost project. These ideas have been around for decades and there's no reason it should have to be such a huge effort to do what's right for the environment. The DOE coul;d be taking the lead as a city/state agency to institutionalize recycling policies as soon as possible! |

| 298 | Catlin Preston | I work in a medium sized school building with several school in it in Manhattan. My school is wonderful EXCEPT that I have to bring my recycling home once weekly because, while we have blue and green bins the custodians dump it all in the trash. I asked them why they don't recycle and thye have replied that it is not required, that they are not in the habit, and that the head custodian has never told then to.
Under existing circumstances, the recycling program in my school building is very disappointing. |
