Comments: Although some improvements have been made during the period of mayoral control of the NYC school system, parents, teachers and principals have been effectively shut out of decision making. All too frequently, we have been shut out of even a meaningful consultation process. Yet parents, teachers and principals are in the schools and have valuable insight into what is working and what is not. Too not seek our input and collaboration is to miss out on the opportunity to fully realize the potential for our schools and our kids.

Comments: The corporate agenda promoted by Bloomberg and Duncan, including steps toward privatization, not only needs to be replaced by parent-teacher control but also by opposition to the market system model in favor of education and society geared toward the needs of people instead of profit.

Comments: Accountability should be shared - it should not be solely on the backs of teachers and students, as the current system operates. Parents and community provide an important check and balance on mayoral and chancellor control that is very much needed if we are to have an equitable public system for all.

Comments: I currently run after-school classes for young people in the public schools. I would like to see true control of the schools back in the hands of administrators and parents in those schools. I would also like to see all high-stakes testing removed from our schools, (especially timed tests) as well as the lowering of class sizes.
